Might land them in the top 4 at the close of the regular season.
But then they're likely getting jumped by conference champions the following week in the polls, not to mention the closed door selection committee run by the conferences. And right now, there's nothing they can do about it. There will be even less if/when the Big IIXII disperses.
ND's problem is that the school's emotionally driven football independence crusade is at the expense of the conferences that now run things.
My money's on them losing that battle barring some kind of drastic democratization of the landscape. That or they just accept exclusion and the consequences that come with it.
